Our Story
We're not fine dining; we're just fine food.— The Galacci Family
A Family Recipe,
A Scranton Tradition
In September 1982, Don Galacci opened the doors to a small takeout shop on South Washington Avenue with one mission: serve the square pan pizza his father taught him to make. No pretense, no frills — just honest, homemade Italian food made the way his family had made it for generations back in the old country.
What started as a modest counter serving pizza by the tray quickly became a neighborhood gathering place. Regulars came for the pizza and stayed for the warmth. Word spread through Scranton's tight-knit neighborhoods, and soon Don was knocking down walls to make more room. One dining room became two. A bar went in. Eventually, a covered patio took shape out back.
Over four decades later, Alfredo's Cafe has grown from that small takeout window into a full-scale dining establishment seating over 230 guests — but the recipe hasn't changed. Every square pan pizza still starts with the same dough Don's father mixed by hand, the same San Marzano-style sauce, the same careful layering that gives our signature pie its crispy edge and pillowy center. The menu has grown to include fresh pastas, steaks, seafood, handcrafted sandwiches, and an award-winning martini bar, but the spirit remains the same: a family feeding their neighbors.

The square pan pizza that started it all — made with Don's father's original recipe since 1982.
The “Good Pizza” from
NBC's The Office
When the writers of NBC's The Office needed a pizza place that could credibly be called the “good” option in Scranton, there was really only one choice. Alfredo's Cafe became part of television history as the pizza place that Michael Scott and the Dunder Mifflin crew actually wanted to order from — the one with the good pizza.
We're proud of the shout-out, and we see fans of the show every single week. They come in expecting great pizza and leave understanding why the writers chose us. If you're visiting Scranton on the fan trail, stop by and grab a square tray — you won't be disappointed. And yes, we know the difference between Alfredo's Cafe and Pizza by Alfredo. Trust us, you want Alfredo's Cafe.
